Local move from Monrovia, CA to Murrieta, CA

They Were Good to Me.

My moving consultant, Alan, was great! He came to my home and took an inventory I had to move and gave a reasonable quote for a flat fee that included, drive time, all materials, 6 men, 2 trucks, and packing of my TVs and framed pictures which included a listing of all of the things they would move. I liked the professionalism and knowing that there wouldn't be any surprises on moving day. A couple of times I had to add a few items to the list but, the price was never increased. I was frantic the night before moving day. Even though I stayed up all night to pack, I was still behind in some of the packing. They started moving right away and let me continue packing as they moved. It was a big job, and they were courteous and very professional.
Nothing was damaged or lost. My whole family and I were very impressed with this company.

Long-distance move from California to Illinois

If you care about your belongings, do not use this company.

Despite a good packing crew arriving at our house, the overall experience with Civic was dreadful.  I do not recommend them. Civic contracted with an unnamed independent company to transport and deliver our household goods. The driver was rude, belligerent, condescending and unprofessional.  He was more concerned about his "real boss" in New York than he was about any commitments to Civic or to me as the customer. The driver had an old and well-used moving van, and made a big deal about not scratching it from overhanging branches.  He refused to drive up the driveway unless I agreed to extra payment. He called his "boss" in New York and the 2 of them tag-teamed me for additional money or he would not unload the truck. This felt like extortion or 3rd world bribery. When I agreed to pay, then he made sure he was still more than 75' from the door to qualify for the long-carry premium. He hired his inexperienced assistant laborers locally through Craigslist. They did very little setup on delivery.

He did not take itemized inventory on delivery to ensure that all items and boxes were accounted for. He  did not have our itemized list and item count with him and blamed it on the dispatch at Civic. He didn't care or take responsibility for broken items -- they were not his responsibility since he was a contractor. His instructions were to call claims.  We had 3 pieces of furniture damaged and 1 item lost.  Most importantly, the leg of our dining table was broken, and then taped together to hide the damage or maybe to keep the parts together. Whoever knew about the damage didn't disclose to us.  The table later collapsed under the weight of dinner dishes during a meal, sending the dishes and glassware crashing to the floor near our young children and putting them in danger!  When I called Civic to file a complaint about the unprofessional delivery driver and to tell them about about the way the damage on the broken table was handled, they took no responsibility at all, nor did they take any action.  Instead they forwarded me to the independent 3rd party company which handles claims.  Make sure you have your own personal property insurance!   I would not use Civic again under any circumstances.

Cost: The cost of the move was average. They do hide some costs in a 10% fuel surcharge on top of their cubic foot rate. Also they charged $161 for packaging materials which was not disclosed until the packers arrived.  We did all of the packing of boxes ahead of time. They packed beds, mattresses chairs and sofa.  (They pack items in blankets and shrink wrap. This enables the movers to roll the furniture putting it more at risk.).
I don't like giving only 1 star.  But I can not give more in this case. It's what the company and its customer service deserve, especially with the very rude behavior of the driver.  .

Long-distance move from California to Colorado

Poor.

This was a horrible experience and I felt they were being dishonest throughout the entire process.  They gave us one quote and then doubled the cost without proper communication.  The whole process felt shady and they held our things until they received the entire payment amount.  I spoke to the manager several times who was very unhelpful and would continue to tell me that the Accounting department would call me, and I never heard from anyone.  In addition, the payment process was extremely difficult.  YOu get charged a lot extra for paying by credit card and have to fill out forms and fax them in with copies of ID's.  If you pay through their account, you have to go to the bank and manually pay into their checking account.  Overall, it was a terrible experience and I will never refer this company to anyone.

Long-distance move from California to South Carolina

Civic van lines.

Civic van lines quoted us a low number without ever giving us a visual inspection of our items. They doubled the prices after they arrived to pick up our items. They never gave us some documents about our move such as the important notice of your move. They will charge you 10% more for using a credit card. They lost several items in the move and never were honest or helpful to resolve it. I had to file my first police report against them to try and get my stuff back. See have not received my items yet after four months. The movers damaged the inside of my house and were very careless with my items. Dropped several boxes from the moving truck. Beware of this company as they are just brokers. They are only out to make money on your moving experience.

Long-distance move from California to Minnesota

Beware.

Please don't plan a cross country move with this company unless you wish to be the victim of extortion and fraud.  I have been trying to deal with this company for over a month, and they are nothing short of scam artists.  Everything changed about the way they do business after they took possession of my property.  I have contacted the department of transportation due to their way of doing business, and we shall see who "wins" this round.

Huge Mistake!! do Not Use Civic Van Lines!

DONT MAKE THE SAME MISTAKE I DID!! If you are moving long-distance, DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY. I get the impression, from reading about other people's experiences, that civic does a fairly decent job with local moves, it's the long distance moves where I see everyone is getting screwed. If I can save even just one person from the absolute HELL I went through, then writing this review was completely worth it. I moved across the country, from west to east coast, and I was attracted to civic van lines because the "quote" they gave us was so affordable. Complete bait and switch. They gave us a low quote over the phone, and once every single one of our belongings was boxed up in the moving van, DOUBLED the price. Not to mention, the movers were 3 hours late, took over 7 hours to pack up our 2 bedroom apartment, left stuff in cupboards and on shelves, and broke/damaged BOTH items, and the interior of my former apartment. If that wasn't bad enough, our stuff arrived almost 2 MONTHS late, and every time we called to find out what was going on, we got the run-around. No one was ever helpful or honest, more like rude and unprofessional. I honestly believed we were never going to see our belongings again, and after living over a month in our new apartment with NOTHING, I started buying new stuff. We have a young child, it's not like we could just go without certain things. Finally our stuff arrived, and the movers who dropped our stuff off (who really had nothing to do with civic whatsoever) were the only redeeming part of this whole process. And I would like to add, that I would have probably been upset that I had started buying all new things, except for the fact that when we began unpacking, most of our stuff was either broken or missing. We've accounted for entire boxes of things that just never even showed up. Honestly, it was the most stressful, hellish move I've ever been through. The kicker is it probably would've been cheaper, after the doubled quote/damaged property, to have not moved anything at all, and just have bought all new stuff when we arrived east. The level of unprofessionalism is unbelievable. This company is a bunch of SCAM ARTISTS and CRIMINALS. DO NOT USE THEM IF YOU MOVE LONG DISTANCE, you may never see your belongings again!

Long-distance move from California to Texas

DO NOT use them for long distance moves.

I arranged my move from LA to Texas through Erica at the end of June. She seemed professional, organized, and answered all my questions. The guys who were scheduled to pick up my stuff showed up pretty much on time, and they were also professional, friendly, and clearly knew what they were doing. They took my stuff on June 29, 2016, and I haven't seen or heard anything about it since. I've called several times now, and spoken to Jesse in dispatch who never seems to know when my belongings will even be put on a truck let alone arrive at their destination.
Jesse has never returned a phone call, and every time I call him, he doesn't have access to his computer or any shipping information. What kind of dispatch person doesn't know where things are? In the meantime, I'm living out of a suitcase.
These guys might be great for in-city moves, but DO NOT use them for long distance. I've been waiting for a month, and still have no idea where my things are or when they will show up, if ever.
This was supposed to be the straight forward part of my relocation, instead, it's the nightmare that is holding up every other step in the process.
I will NEVER use Schleppers again and will most definitely recommend against anyone else using them, especially for a long distance move.

Long-distance move from California to Texas

Horrible delivery, horrible experience.

On 6/17/16 Shleppers movers arrived at my residence at 2101 E 21st St, Unit 202, Signal Hill, CA. They picked up my goods and departed. After they departed it was discovered they had stolen a bulletproof vest from my residence worth $1,200. There is a police report filed with Signal Hill Police. The delivery date to my new residence at 700 Spring Garden Drive, Bedford, TX, was listed “as soon as possible”. The delivery window for the move was 7-21 business days. The timeframe for delivery was June 28th to July 18th. The company stated they ship to Texas twice a week. Shleppers delivered most of our goods on June 30th. However, it was discovered 2 pallets of goods were not on the truck and was not delivered. Additionally much of the furniture was damaged to some degree and my motorcycle was also damaged. A call to the supervisor Jesse Heeber was placed on July 1 and he said he did not know where the remaining items were and would find them. That took a week and a half. I called on July 13th and Jesse said they were found and would ship out on the next truck. That date for shipment was supposed to be July 15th. Shleppers have been hard to reach, Jesse does not answer his phone reliably, and no one at the company will give me a firm date for delivery. Jesse kept citing the shipment would arrive the following week. I have called multiple times each week but I have not received my goods.

Long-distance move from California to Texas

Worst Customer Service @ Los Angeles, CA. Office.

Worst Customer Service I have ever received. This company is a joke, Can't even live up to their word that was giving.
Moving from CA. to TX. was looking for a smooth move without any hangups.

I called and spoke with Erica Sanchez and explained to her what needed. She was very helpful and had told me that if I have my stuff picked up on June 22nd, I could get a July 1st delivery date. So I said, ok, let's do it.

Movers showed up on the 22nd, loaded my stuff, they were really nice, professional. They had me go over all the paperwork to make sure everything was signed so there wouldn't be any hangups on the move. Ok great, good to go.

June 30, Thursday I call Jesse Heeber, apparently he is the Ops Mgr. I ask him for a time when my stuff would be delivered on July 1st. He told me that my stuff is still in CA, that I was missing a form so he couldn't send my stuff. I asked him why he didn't call me to inform me about this form, He has had my stuff for 3 weeks, why no call. He told me that he knew a couple days ago that my forms weren't sign and that he would eventually of called me. Wow was I pissed. Unbelievable the incompetency of this supposed MGR. So he mailed me the form I needed to sign, I had to run all over Austin and try to find a computer/printer to get this formed printed, signed and sent back to him.

July 1st, I get the form back to him and am told that he is not sure when he can get my stuff sent out. I call customer service and speak to Nicole, who takes down my information and tells me that I will be hearing from a Mgr by Tuesday afternoon. I call back and speak with Joseph, who is apparently the Mgr in customer service, he tells me that he will personally have a mgr call me on Tuesday, since Monday is a holiday.

Tuesday comes and still no answer on my stuff being moved or a phone call from a MGR. Every time I call Jesse, He just brushes me off and gives me the run around and trying to blame me for not signing all the forms. So now it has been almost 5 weeks since this company has had my stuff and I have finally gotten some resolve from Jesse, Saying the earliest he can get my stuff on a truck is Saturday morning, July 9th.

So because this guy, JESSE HEEBER, dropped the ball and let my paperwork go without any attention to it, this company did not deliver on it's statement of having my stuff delivered on July 1st. This also caused me additional financial hardship because not having any of my stuff, I had to go out and buy all new stuff for the time being. I also have to return to week Sunday, July 10th, and I have to buy new work uniforms, work boots & work tools because this company has my stuff. So I ask JESSE HEEBER, to show me some compassion and help me out with some kind of reimbursement, you know take $250.00 of my balance since I had to buy new stuff for the house and new work stuff. He tells me that it's not his fault and he shouldn't have to reimburse me, I should of taken my work stuff with me. WOW!! As an Operations MGR. unbelievable how he has treated me.

$1568.00 to move from CA to TX
$250.00 to buy work clothes, tools, boots
$250.00 to buy appliances and house accessories
Total: $2000.00+ for a stressful and unwarranted experience

Every time I call and ask to speak to a MGR or Supervisor, I just get the run around and brush off or they tell me to go through JESSE HEEBER. Which is obviously not working. No one at this company wants to help me resolve my issue, everyone wants to pass the buck and the buck ultimately stops at JESSE HEEBER's desk and won't be escalated any further.

JESSE HEEBER is a poor excuse for an OPS MGR, he doesn't care about the customer, he won't accept his mistakes and he tries to put everything back on the customer.

I was originally going to get a U HAUL truck and move everything myself but after speaking with Erica, I trusted and had faith that Shlepper's would do an honest job. BOY, was I wrong.

I will never recommend this company, this company is the worst when it comes to customer service. This company is a joke, I would stay far away from this company.
